I am a visual artist, climate change scientist, and environmental advocate. My art, scientific career, and research are inspired by the intricacies of our natural world.
Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up with a rich tapestry of creative outlets. I also grew up with the binary belief that you must choose between the arts or STEM (science, technology, engineering, math); both was not an option. When I began my science undergraduate, I took an art hiatus for several years. Post graduation, I experienced a few debilitating injuries that reminded me how disconnected I felt to my creative self.
My graduate research challenged by binary beliefs of the exclusivity of science and art. My thesis lives in the world of science, the world of art, and the world in-between. I believe that interdisciplinary collaboration is a powerful and inclusive way forward to dissolving knowledge divides between communities.
My outdoor recreation activities alongside my environmental science education have deepened my connection with nature, a connection that is vital to my artistic process and my mental health. I enjoy spending time outdoors rock and ice climbing, running, backpacking, caving, practicing yoga, and field sketching.
Water has a special place in my heart. I feel at ease anytime I am nearby water. I am without fail, in awe, each time I walk up to a frozen waterfall, a rushing river, a still creek, or come across a small spring resurgence in the alpine. I am just endlessly fascinated by the power and grace of water, and I am passionate about being a voice in protecting our life support.
I have lived in Mohkinstsis, on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 region my entire life. Located in the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies in Southern Alberta, the privilege of recreating and interacting with these beautiful landscapes fuels the personal, creative, professional pockets of my life.
